Hume's Hadromys has rusty tones in its dark back and lives in grassy and wooded habitats in northeastern India.
Six adult males examined in 1945 had head-and-body lengths of 92–140 mm. Their backs were dark salt-and-pepper with a rusty tinge, while the underside was dirty white.
In India it lives on dry, grassy hillsides in oak parkland at about 1,150–1,320 m.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
