The Hantu Water Shrew lives near forest streams on the Malay Peninsula. Its external ears are absent, and stiff hairs fringe the edges of its partly webbed feet.
Its body has velvety, water-repellent fur, dark gray to black above and dark brown underneath. The toes are partly webbed, with stiff hairs fringing the sides of the feet. No external ear is visible.
It forages near streams and was seen diving and swimming away when disturbed. Stomach remains included insects, earthworms, molluscs, crustaceans, fish, and frogs; the authors considered it a broad feeder.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
