A jackdaw with contrasting pale and dark adult plumage and a darker immature stage.
The adult pied form has pale underparts and a pale collar contrasting with its dark head, breast, wings, and tail. A black phase is described as immature plumage.
A field identification paper reports that the black plumage appears after a moult soon after fledging and can last through winter into at least the following summer. It notes that the age pattern is not fully settled.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
