The black-tailed Uromys is a large rat from New Guinea. Its 1907 description notes coarse gray-brown fur and a black tail; the collector described it as a ground-dweller using burrows.
It is large, with coarse gray-brown fur, a reddish rump, and a mostly black tail with a reddish furry base.
The original description quotes the collector as saying it lived in ground burrows and sometimes hollow trees. This is an old field note, not a study of how often it uses each site.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
