A small shrew found in mountain forests of Taiwan, with a dark back in winter and a long tail sparsely covered in short hairs.
In winter pelage, the back is blackish dark grey and the belly dark grey. The dark olive-brown tail has sparse short hairs and conspicuous rings, and the muzzle bears long whiskers.
In the mountains of central Taiwan, it has been collected at Le Le hut and Tunpu at 1,560 m, and Tsuifeng at 2,300 m.
The forefeet and hindfeet are paler than the body and covered with short whitish hairs.
Hairs at the middle of the back are 4–5 mm long.
The four examined specimens had head-and-body lengths of 65–71 mm, tails of 64–73 mm, and a mass of about 5 g.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
