This small rat is known from the Ruwenzori Mountains of Uganda. Its tail is shorter than its head and body. It occurs in lowland and highland forests; at Mabira it was found inside forests, at degraded edges and in adjacent habitats.
The 2007 description reports head-and-body lengths of 113–126 mm and tails of 40–80 mm for age-class 2–3 males and females from Mount Ruwenzori. Hind feet measured 22–24 mm, ears 16–19 mm, and body mass 36–55 g. In that sample, the tail was shorter than the head and body.
At Mabira Central Forest Reserve in Uganda, it was found in forest interiors, degraded forest edges and adjacent habitats. The 2018–2019 survey included captures inside primary forest.
