The Spot-necked Babbler is a small babbler, 15–17 cm long. It searches forest cover for invertebrates, and a rare field report describes it preening a different babbler species.
It is 15–17 cm long and weighs about 26–30 g. Its English name refers to the spotted neck that distinguishes this small babbler.
It is active by day and searches dense evergreen forest and bamboo for invertebrates. In February 2022, it was observed preening the nape and back of a Nonggang Babbler on three occasions; the report called this the first field record of interspecific allopreening in the babbler family.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
