The Mediterranean water shrew is a small shrew associated with water. Its dark back and white underside stand out, while its close relative can look almost identical.
Its back is black and its underside is white. It looks very similar to N. milleri, and genetic studies helped distinguish the two species.
It feeds mainly on terrestrial and aquatic invertebrates found near small streams. Its aquatic behavior makes it difficult to catch in the monitoring project described by SEMICE.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
