This shrew mole is recorded in Yunnan, China. Its original description reports a brownish back and dark rump, underside, and legs. A later survey records a sample from forest habitat.
In the Mu-cheng type-locality description, the back was dark brown, with black hairs mixed with slate-colored hairs tipped hazel. The rump, underside, and legs were described as blackish slate.
A Yunnan survey conducted from 2015 to 2020 and published in 2025 trapped small mammals and recorded habitat. Supplementary Table S2 lists YunL-140 as one sample of this species from forest in Yunlong.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
