This small shrew was studied in the forests of Mount Cameroon. A survey recorded many specimens in montane forest above Buea; one record in high-altitude grassland was exceptional.
Specimens collected at 1,850 m above Buea had head-and-body lengths of about 61–71 mm and tails of about 50–59 mm. This account gives measurements only because a detailed coat description was not verified in the study.
The 1968 study recorded 36 specimens in montane forest at about 1,850 m above Buea. A single specimen at about 3,000 m came from high-altitude grassland above the forest edge and was described as exceptional.
The original Mount Cameroon specimen was brownish black, paler and browner below. Its slender, ringed tail carried short, close-lying hair.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
