Villa's Gray Shrew is a small shrew recorded only in mountain valleys of Tamaulipas, northeastern Mexico. Its coat changes with the season, and vegetation differs among known sites.
In summer, the back hairs have silvery-grey tips and the underside is also silvery grey. In winter, the back hairs have very dark grey bases, pinkish-white middle bands and dark greyish-brown tips. The winter underside is pinkish white.
Known collection sites are in mountain valleys with different vegetation, including pine-oak forest, tropical forest, and riparian growth. Two lactating females were collected in July 1953.
The tail hairs are very dark greyish brown.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
