This small tyrant flycatcher occurs in southeastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, northeastern Argentina, and northern Uruguay. It closely resembles E. parvirostris, and voice is reported as a useful clue where field separation is difficult.
It is about 14–16 cm long and weighs 16–20 g. The upperparts are dull olive, with a pale eye-ring and two light wing-bars; the breast is greyish olive and the centre of the belly is paler.
It eats small fruits and insects. It uses forested habitats and is described as partially migratory. WikiAves reports a low tree or shrub nest lined with lichens and moss.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
