The red mouse opossum is a small marsupial recorded from southeastern Colombia, eastern Ecuador, and eastern Peru. A museum specimen documents it in the foothill evergreen forest of Ecuador’s Sangay National Park.
It has a reddish-brown back, an orange-toned underside, large ears and eyes, and a tail that helps it grasp branches.
At Danu in Ecuador’s Sangay National Park, a 2014 record of this species is catalogued as specimen DMMECN 4240. The survey classifies Danu as southern Andean piedmont evergreen forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
