An 18-month study at RNAM in northeastern Peru recorded Cuvier's Spiny-rat in several forest habitats. Appearance and habitat details here are limited to that local population.
At RNAM, the medium-sized animals tended to be lighter and redder than a related local species, with a white underside.
At RNAM, it was frequently captured in all three forest types; pregnancy and lactation records led the authors to report year-round breeding.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
