MDD treats the Ruwenzori Duiker as the species Cephalophorus rubidus. A 2025 IUCN Antelope Specialist Group guide still follows the Red List and lists it as a subspecies of the Black-fronted Duiker, so sources do not yet agree on its rank.
It has a bright red, dense woolly coat, paler underparts, a dark forehead blaze, darker shoulders and forelegs, and blackish lower hind legs. Its short tail is dark above and pale below.
It is seldom observed. Reports describe activity both by day and at night, usually alone, in high Rwenzori habitats such as moorland, heather woodland, bog margins and rocky slopes. Direct observations of its diet are lacking.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
