This bird lives along mountain streams in the Andes. Its pale head and throat contrast with a dark back and belly, and it feeds on small animals near water.
Adults have a grey-white crown and whitish throat and chest against a dark brown-black back and belly. A white patch on the wing shows in flight.
It searches for food by wading at the edges of mountain rivers and streams. Aquatic invertebrates are its main food; it also takes terrestrial molluscs from streamside plants.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
