This trogon is endemic to Cuba. Along with blue, white, and red plumage, its tail shifts through violet-blue, green, and golden-copper tones.
The crown and neck are dark blue with violet sheen, and the eye and bill are red. The throat is white; a narrow white band separates the pale chest from the vermilion belly. The back is bronzy green, and the long tail shows violet-blue, green, and golden-copper tones.
It inhabits several forest types on the island, including evergreen, deciduous, pine, and secondary forest. It eats fruit, berries, and buds, and also catches insects from branches or in flight. The breeding season runs from May to August; it uses tree cavities or old woodpecker nests.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
