This fruit-eating bat is widespread in tropical South America. Its pale facial stripes are relatively fine, and figs are among its preferred foods.
It has white facial stripes, but they are narrower and less contrasting than those of the great fruit-eating bat. The back is ashy to pale brown, with slightly paler, grayer fur underneath.
It mainly eats fruit and prefers figs. Flowers, leaves, and insects are also recorded less often; Vismia fruits were a main food in one account from Brazil's cerrado.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
