Ctenomys famosus is a burrowing rodent known from La Rioja Province in northwestern Argentina. Published collection sites are few, and its boundary with nearby species still needs study.
The topotype specimen was described with pale copper-brown fur on the back, a darker stripe from the head along the back, and pale cream flanks and belly.
The species assessment classifies Ctenomys famosus as terrestrial and fossorial, meaning that it spends time on the ground and digs underground burrows. It reports low numbers of individuals at the known sites.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
