This flycatcher inhabits forests from the Philippines through Sulawesi to the Moluccas. It searches for small insects in the forest and sometimes catches them in flight.
Adults of the nominate form are turquoise-blue, brighter on the forehead and throat, with a black eye-mask. The dark wings and tail have turquoise edges. Females are slightly duller, and other subspecies differ in underpart color.
It searches for insects in forest, mossy forest, edges, and clearings. It may forage alone or in pairs, sometimes joining mixed insect-eating flocks, and sallies from a perch for flying insects.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
