The Atlas gundi is a rodent of rocky, dry places in North Africa. Its compact body, large eyes, and tiny tail are useful clues.
It has a compact body, short legs, flat ears, large eyes, and long whiskers. Its tail is so short that it is little more than a tuft of hair.
It lives in groups among rock outcrops and feeds on plants. Gundis bask on warm rocks in the morning and flatten their bodies to slip into narrow cracks when alarmed.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
