This rodent of the Peruvian Andes has long, soft greyish-brown fur and a pale belly. Fruit feeding and seed dispersal have also been documented at one montane-forest site.
The fur is long, smooth, and fine. The back is greyish brown to dark brown, with a pale buff line along the flanks and a whitish belly. The tail is brown above and white below.
It inhabits high-Andean grasslands. At Chiquintirca in a Peruvian montane forest, viable seeds were recovered from its droppings in 2011–2012.
In the 2011–2012 records from Chiquintirca, its droppings contained seeds of two Gaultheria types, some of which remained viable.
There is a white patch behind each ear.
The upper surfaces of the forefeet and hindfeet are pale to white, and the proximal third of the soles is thinly haired.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
