This Texas pocket gopher occurs along the Brazos River drainage. The 2024 state checklist follows the recent treatment of it as a separate species.
The 1938 description called it dark brown, usually with a distinctly darker, nearly black stripe along the back.
Records extend through the Brazos River drainage of eastern Texas, much of the Post Oak region, and the Big Thicket in the southern Pineywoods.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
