The Ankober Serin is a small bird of rocky slopes and escarpments in the Ethiopian highlands. It eats grass and herb seeds and can forage in flocks of several dozen.
It is about 11 cm long. The upperparts are grayish brown with dark streaks; the off-white underparts have bold dark streaking from throat to vent.
It eats grass and herb seeds and other food in open rocky terrain, gathering in groups at roosts and feeding sites.
In the Simien Mountains and Guassa in 2014–2016, flocks were larger in the dry season than in the wet season. One Simien feeding site had a mean flock size of about 130 birds.
At the same two sites, leaves predominated in the wet-season diet and seeds in the dry season. Small amounts of insects and moss were also eaten.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
