This red-billed hornbill form was recorded in central and southern Tanzania. Its original description named ruahae as a subspecies of Tockus erythrorhynchus.
The Tanzanian form has black bare skin around the eye and a yellow iris, features used in the original description to distinguish red-billed hornbill forms.
Tockus ruahae lives in tree and bush savanna and feeds mainly on the ground. It eats insects, small vertebrates such as geckos, nestlings and rodents, and some fruit.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
