The Iberian hare has large eyes, long ears and powerful hind legs. It is native only to the Iberian Peninsula and prefers open, level ground.
It has large eyes and long ears with black tips. Black hairs stand out against its golden-brown back; its underside and legs are white, and its hind legs are longer than its forelegs.
It uses a wide range of habitats, from inland woods and scrub to coastal dunes. It nevertheless prefers open, gently level places such as grassy farmland and pastures.
