The Pitta-like Ground Roller lives in forests of eastern Madagascar and the central High Plateau. Its blue head and black eye mask stand out, while it searches the leaf litter for prey.
Males and females look similar. The head is cobalt blue with white spots and a black band across the eyes; the throat is white, the shoulders reddish bronze, and the back and wings green.
It searches leaf litter for ants, beetles, worms, and other invertebrates, sometimes taking small vertebrates. During the October-to-February rainy-season breeding period, pairs excavate a burrow and both parents feed the chicks.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
