The Luzon Sunbird occurs on Luzon. Males have metallic green wing markings and a scarlet upper-breast patch; females are olive-green above with a lemon-yellow rump. In Lepanto it was observed searching scarlet tubular flowers for insects.
Grant’s male description quoted by McGregor gives metallic green outer webs on the secondaries and a scarlet patch at the center of the upper breast. McGregor found that the breast patch varied in size among birds from the same locality. His 1909 account describes females as olive-green above, darker and browner on the crown, with a lemon-yellow rump and pale yellow underparts. Whitehead recorded a brick-red iris and black bill and feet.
In Lepanto, Whitehead observed the birds searching scarlet, tubular flowers for insects. His account also describes a moss nest under construction in a low-stature forest in mid-February; the nest was soon abandoned.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
