This ground-dwelling bird occurs on Timor Island. Its appearance is documented in an 1862 Timor account, while its habitat is listed in a 2008 regional checklist.
Wallace's Timor account describes an olive-brown back, a chestnut-tinged head, and deep chestnut rump and tail. A pale rufous stripe runs above the eye toward the nape, and the belly is paler.
A 2008 Timor-Leste bird checklist records it in tropical forest and woodland and lists it as a locally common resident.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
