This species is distributed in Cameroon’s mountains. An older field account found animals then called D. incomtus longipilosus on dry slopes with grass and shrubs.
The mountain form was described as having long, loose fur, a strongly grayish-black coloration, and a tail clearly shorter than the head-and-body length.
A report published in 1968 describes eight specimens then identified as longipilosus from dry slopes around Lake Manenguba covered with grass and bushes.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
