This hummingbird is common in Mexico's uplands. It strays north into Arizona in summer and feeds on nectar while hovering at flowers.
The sexes look similar. It is mostly bright green, with chestnut-red tail and wings; the bill may show reddish color and the belly can be buff or gray.
It hovers at flowers to drink nectar and also eats tiny insects. It catches some insects in midair and plucks others from foliage.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
