The Hutan Shrew was recorded in mountain surveys in West Sumatra. A 2024 study compared its dorsal fur and claws with related shrews and reported records from Mount Singgalang and Mount Talamau.
Its dorsal fur is about 4 mm long, shorter than the 7 mm reported for C. dewi; its long claws are only slightly curved.
In the 2024 montane-forest survey, this shrew was captured in pitfall lines and recorded on Mount Singgalang and Mount Talamau. The paper does not describe its diet or behavior by species.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
