A small hanging parrot from islands in eastern Indonesia. Its wings make a hummingbird-like whirring sound in flight.
Adults are mainly green, with a red chin and throat. The Sula Islands subspecies has a yellow-orange back, while the Banggai Islands subspecies has a red back.
Its wings make a whirring sound in flight. It occurs alone, in pairs, or in small groups; during breeding it has been recorded carrying nesting material tucked into its feathers.
