A fruit-eating forest bird endemic to the Philippines, it searches for figs and other fruit high in the canopy. Both sexes have glossy blue-and-black plumage.
Adults have black lores, face, throat and upper breast. The crown is glossy royal blue with a violet tinge; the neck, shoulders and upper body are deep indigo. The tail is blue with a black centre, and the eye is red. Females are similar but slightly duller, with a less distinct boundary between the dark breast and indigo underside.
It feeds mainly on fruit, especially figs, and forages high in the canopy. It also visits fruit crops at forest edges and is described as resident.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
