Lophuromys laticeps, the Albertine Rift brush-furred rat, is recorded in Nyungwe National Park, Rwanda. It was the most frequently observed Lophuromys there and appeared at every survey site.
Its coat is rusty with fine dark speckling. The Nyungwe account also records variation in body size, coat and belly color, and general shape.
Nyungwe records place it on the forest floor. The authors suggest that moist places with thick undergrowth are likely important habitat, and they occasionally observed it foraging in grass.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
