A tern that travels from Arctic breeding grounds to Antarctic waters with the seasons. In Britain, it breeds along northern coasts.
It closely resembles the Common Tern, but its flight is noticeably more graceful.
Most migration follows offshore or coastal routes. In southern waters it patrols the edge of sea ice and also forages over the open ocean.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
