The southern four-eyed opossum is a medium-sized marsupial of Brazil's Atlantic Coastal region. It feeds mainly on invertebrates, small vertebrates, and fruit, and is active at night.
Its dorsal fur is uniformly gray, while the ventral fur can be whitish, yellowish, or buffy. The revision reports no reliable external trait for distinguishing it from the close relative P. canus in the field.
It is solitary and strictly nocturnal, feeds mainly on invertebrates, small vertebrates, and fruit, and is semiterrestrial, occasionally using the understory.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
