This small fruit bat lives across West African forest and savanna zones. Records show seasonal movements north and south as the rains change.
Its back fur ranges from brown to reddish or grayish brown, and the underside is paler. Adult males have a white or yellowish tuft on each shoulder; pollen can stain it yellow. No tail is visible.
It remains in West African rainforest zones during the dry season, moves north as the rains begin, and returns south when the wet season ends. It eats figs and other fruit, nectar, and pollen. Locality records imply round-trip movements of about 300–1,100 km, depending on the region.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
