This tyrant flycatcher occurs in the Amazon region. A 2005 survey in Bolivia found it in the canopy of low-stature forest and in semi-open scrub with scattered trees.
The adult in the Macaulay Library photograph has grayish-brown head and upperparts and a pale yellowish belly.
In the 2005 survey, at least three birds were heard and occasionally seen in the canopy of low forest and adjoining semi-open scrub with scattered trees.
