This tanager lives in humid forests of northwestern Colombia. Males have a red throat and crest, and the birds forage for arthropods.
It is about 19 cm long. The male is dark gray with a red throat and crest; the female is browner gray with buffier throat and crown.
It searches for arthropods in forest and along edges. Pairs or family groups are reported, and birds may follow army-ant swarms while foraging.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
