A swift with dark wings and a pale throat that catches insects over eastern African highlands, cliffs, and towns.
It has a small head and a shallowly forked tail. The head and body are brown; the outer wings are dark, contrasting with paler inner wings and a pale throat.
It catches insects in flight over gorges, cliffs, and settlements. It nests in cliff crevices or buildings and may breed in colonies.
It builds a shallow cup of feathers and grass held together with saliva and lays one to three eggs.
It often forages early in the morning or late in the afternoon, also feeding through the day near active breeding colonies and gathering with other swifts.
The sexes have similar plumage.
