Locustella pryeri is a small grassland bird found in parts of Japan and China. Japan's environment ministry lists grasslands, including reed beds, as preferred habitat, and a study at Hotokenuma examined its nesting microhabitats.
The environment ministry describes it as a small, reddish-brown bird with white eyebrows.
At Hotokenuma, nest types differed between wet patches with dead understory plants and drier patches with living understory plants. This relationship is a result from that wetland study.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
