This Hawaiian thrush formerly occurred on Maui, Lanai, and Molokai. In 2019, the IUCN assessed it as Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct). No confirmed record of the species has been reported since 1980; reports of a possible remnant on Molokai remain unconfirmed.
It is brown above and pale gray below, with the throat darkest on the underparts and pale buff undertail coverts.
The species is described as shy and as inhabiting the canopy of montane forest. On Molokai and Lanai, it was recorded in forest from low elevations to higher elevations in the late 19th century; these are historical records, not evidence of current presence.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
