Centered in southeastern Peru, this jacamar also occurs in the lowland Amazon of Brazil and Bolivia. It launches from waterside or forest-edge perches to catch flying insects.
The breast and back are chestnut, the feet are red, and the bill ranges from pink to red. It lacks the conspicuous white ear patches of the White-eared Jacamar.
It inhabits open lowland settings with scattered trees around lakes and wetlands, along forest edges, and in second growth. It waits on horizontal branches and catches passing insects on the wing.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
