This small forest shrew has a short tail relative to its body. In a Gabon study, capture numbers changed with the seasons, but it remained a dominant species throughout the year.
In a comparison of 19 specimens, mean head-and-body length was 45.4 mm and mean tail length was 23.2 mm. The authors described it as the smallest and shortest-tailed species in Sylvisorex.
During a one-year study at two tropical forest sites in Gabon, captures were sometimes lower in the long dry season, but this shrew remained dominant in every season.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
