The Gray-capped Hemispingus is found in the northwestern Venezuelan Andes. Its gray hood-like crown contrasts with yellowish-olive plumage.
The gray crown and upper head make a hooded outline. Its upperparts are bright yellowish olive, with a yellow throat and underside. The sexes are similar; immatures are duller.
It uses montane and elfin forest at 1,900–3,200 m. It is usually seen in pairs or groups of up to about 20 in mixed-species flocks. Its diet probably consists mainly of small arthropods.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
