This shrew mouse is currently known only from Mount Amuyao in northern Luzon. Its species account reports captures in old-growth montane and mossy forest at 1,885–2,690 m, and earthworms in the stomach contents. The authors say its wider distribution still needs study.
It has a long, robust body with dark chestnut fur. The tail is nearly as long as the head and body, and the hind feet are relatively long.
It was captured in old-growth montane and mossy forest on Mount Amuyao. The paper reports slightly more daytime than nocturnal or crepuscular captures; earthworms were found in all six examined stomachs, with centipedes or insect fragments in some.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
