This flycatcher lives in brush and thorn forest from lowlands into foothills of western Mexico. It can be hard to notice while quiet; a 2013 recording from Jalisco captured a male singing from a tree along a trail.
It has pale spectacles, faint dusky streaks on the breast, and cinnamon edging on the wings.
It stays in brush and thorn forest and can be difficult to see unless singing. A Macaulay Library recording documents a male singing from a treetop beside a trail in Chamela, Jalisco.
