Chinchillula sahamae is a medium-sized rodent of the high Andes. It is known for its black, white, and brown pattern and for a report of nesting with its own hair among rocks.
Its fur has strong black, white, and brown markings. The short, well-haired tail can be bicolored, and the ears are relatively large.
At the start of the rainy season, a specimen was observed building a ground nest among boulders with its own hair. Earlier studies cited in the paper describe it as herbivorous and active from dusk into the night.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
