Wild Helmeted Guineafowl in southwestern Ethiopia use farmland and wooded habitats, finding different foods as the seasons change.
Surveys from January2018 to December2020 recorded the highest numbers in farmland during the wet season and woodland during the dry season. Flocks reached22birds, and habitat use differed among seasons.
Direct observations also revealed seasonal foraging differences: insects dominated in the wet season and seeds in the dry season. The local population’s food supply thus changed with rainfall and the surrounding landscape.
